NSR FAQs
FL-41 lenses and other migraine glasses available on the market are a one-size-fits-all solution, offering only one colored lens, NSR-M lenses are individualized and tailored specifically to your brain’s unique light sensitivity. Every brain is different, and no two brains process light exactly the same way. To effectively address the light sensitivity that is triggering your migraines, the solution needs to be as individualized as you are.
Brains are unique. No two brains process light exactly the same way. NSR-M lenses are customized to adjust the light waves precisely the way your brain needs. When your color is individualized to your specific needs, it normalizes brain activity. This means your brain is interpreting the light signals exactly the way they are supposed to be interpreted, and as a result, colors will look normal through your individualized lenses, and they won’t make things look dark like sunglasses.
Individuals who suffer from light-triggered migraines achieve the best result when they wear their NSR-M lenses all the time. Whenever your eyes are open, your brain is trying to process light and visual signals, so if you’re not wearing your NSR-M lenses to adjust the signals appropriately, there is always a chance of triggering migraine attack.
Your optimal color can change over time for a variety of reason. Brain systems are dynamic and reactive systems that are impacted by things like hormones, prescription medications, and, in the case of brain injury, even rehabilitation. When your brain or body chemistry changes significantly, there is a chance that your optimal color will also change. To make sure you always have the optimal color, we recommend annual visits with your NSR-M provider.
NSR-M lenses come in both prescription and non-prescription versions. We can create your custom tinted lenses with any current optical prescription, and we offer single vision, progressive, bi-focal, and even hi-index lens options.
No. Colors will look normal when looking through NSR-M lenses. Our lenses adjust light waves specifically for your brain’s individual needs, normalizing your brain’s reaction to light and visual stimuli. This means that your world won’t look artificially colored when looking through NSR-M lenses.
Your certified assessor may be able to bill insurance for the office assessment depending on their specific licensing status and credentials. NSR-M lenses are not currently covered by medical insurance, but are HSA/FSA eligible.
Most of our providers offer a variety of custom frame selections. However, we want to make sure your NSR-M lenses are in a frame that you love and want to wear, so we do offer the option to provide your own frame.
Yes. It doesn’t matter if you’ve suffered from migraines your entire life, or if they are a result of a brain injury or concussion, NSR-M lenses address the root cause of light-triggered migraines and are highly effective for light sensitivity, headaches and migraines resulting from head injury or post-concussive syndrome.
NSR-M lenses begin to work immediately to normalize your brain’s response to light and visual stimuli. Many NSR-M lens wearers report not having any more light-triggered migraines as soon as they start wearing their lenses. NSR-M lenses are preventative and are not intended to treat the symptoms of an acute migraine attack.
Some people’s brains work too hard to interpret visual information (including light). For these people, light can cause dysregulated brain activity. Spectral filters adjust the timing of the visual signals sent to your brain so that your brain is able to interpret the signals correctly without extra stress or strain and normalize the brain’s response to light.
